He has especially introduced meditation and Kriya Yoga to the people of the West. Paramahansa Yogananda is the first and main guru of yoga. However, he spent most of his life in America.
Apart from this, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya is called the ‘Modern Yoga Guru’. The entire credit for reviving Hatha Yoga and Vinyasa goes to him. Apart from this, Tirumalai Krishnamacharya also had knowledge of Ayurveda. He used to cure the people who came to him for treatment with the help of Yoga and Ayurveda.
Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s yoga guru was Dhirendra Brahmachari. At that time, he started promoting yoga through Doordarshan channel. He promoted yoga by writing many books in Hindi and English. Even today, his luxurious ashram exists in Jammu.

He also has a book named ‘Light on Yoga’.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was a well-known guru of ‘Transcendental Meditation’ in the country and the world. Not only this, many celebrities also consider him as their guru. They are known all over the world for their yoga. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is also a disciple of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Yoga Day launched
It is worth noting that for the first time on 27 September 2014, the Prime Minister of India addressed the United Nations General Assembly. Narendra Modi In his speech, PM Modi had proposed to celebrate International Yoga Day. On 11 December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly approved this proposal and announced to celebrate 21 June as International Yoga Day. Let us tell you that this proposal was supported by 177 countries. For the first time, Yoga Day was celebrated worldwide on 21 June 2015.
